Our front porch posts were rotten.

When the old posts were removed, they discovered they weren't anchored TO anything -- they were just being held down by gravity.

We did a bunch of concrete work and the new posts will, presumably, not fall in the abuse that Felix and Milo will inevitably heap upon them in their teenage years.
