We had a peculiar dentist experience this week. A couple of months ago, the kids went for a teeth cleaning at a dentist in Berkeley. We liked the dentist well enough but it turned out they were not in our network, insurance-wise. It meant a lot of extra paperwork and out-of-pocket expenses. So, we decided to change dentist. The new dentist is in Oakland... a longer drive but in our network. During the October cleaning, dentist #1 found a cavity in Milo's mouth. We finally went to dentist #2 this week to get it fixed. The reason it took so long is that Lucie just couldn't get dentist #1 to transfer the X-rays to dentist #2. They always had a good excuse for not having done it yet. In the end, dentist #2 agreed to simply retake the X-rays, free of charge. To our amazement, the new X-rays revealed that Milo has no cavity (!?!). Could any dentist really be unscrupulous enough to invent cavities to generate business? Dentist #2 conceded that one tooth showed very slight decay that may eventually lead to a cavity. However it's on a baby tooth and Milo is 7. He will most likely loose that tooth before it becomes a problem. We are so glad we changed dentist.
