This weekend we went to San Luis Obsipo, to visit Ron and Kay. Putting in special guest appearances were Grandpa John and Linda. It was Grandpa's birthday. Happy birthday, Grandpa! Felix somehow got a stomach virus on the way down, and barfed nonstop in the car, on Ron and Kay's sofa, on their floors, on their bed, and on us. We'd like to take this chance to apologize for the smelly mess. Despite it, we had a great time.
On the language side, this may be the last week we list every single new word. They're coming too fast. One odd thing is that he's started to mix parts of French and English words in ways that are unique to him. For instance, he sometimes says "kay" for key, which is a mix of the English "key" and the French "clef".
New words:
-
[hands twirling]: bridge. This is the sign for turning but, on his own, he started using it for bridges and highway overpasses.
-
[patting head]: hat. Looks the same as his sign for shower, but it's clear which one he means, depending on the context.
-
food He uses it as a reinforcement of his favorite baby sign.
-
down: as in, going downstairs. He may be saying "up" as well, but it's not clear.
-
more Felix still does his baby sign for more all the time, but it has evolved to mean "help me". When he wants more of something, he uses the baby sign + the spoken word.
-
shoe-shoe: When talking about shoes, Felix sometimes says shoe and sometimes shoe-shoe. Shoe-shoe is very close to the French word for shoe, "chaussure".
-
bo: boat. He also sometimes says "babeau", close to the French word for boat, "bateau".
-
key: Pronounced more like "kay", sort of a mix between "key" and the French "clef". Felix loves keys. Give him the car keys and he'll run as fast as he can to the car. So far he hasn't managed to get it into the door correctly, but it's just a matter of time.
-
main: hand, in French
-
nez: nose, in French
-
zizi: another body part
