After Dean went back to Berkeley, noone spoke English to Felix for 10 days. Yet he persevered in NOT speaking any French. Even with that handicap, he and Iris managed to get closer. Iris showed a lot of good will, doing her best to guess at her cousin's intentions. She even picked up a little English: "baby dog", "superman" and "I don't like it" (which she translates as "I am finished eating" ... Felix wasn't so wild about French cooking).
